Term 4 2023 Metro Junior Referee Academy

The Academy is predominantly for Year 7-8 students from Dunedin Metro Schools who are playing in a Year 7-8 team at 4.45 or 5.15pm

Many of these students go directly from School to the Park rather then going home first and have to wait for their game.

So we have created an opportunity for them to get involved as soon as they arrive and referee a Year 1-4 game at 3.45 and sometimes 4.15 game to take the pressure off Parents, Coaches or volunteers working with these teams.

We will provide a coordinator/trainer for these students to teach them the ropes and we give them a singlet  to wear over their School PE uniform and a whistle to bring each week, to show that they are part of the academy and have been allocated to a particular game.

We can also recognise their volunteering with a certificate at the end of the term of how many games they have refereed.

The students in Dunedin love the programme to where they can tag team games with their friends and actually have fun. Plus the teams love it as well.

We do need the Parents to register the players because we need them to be aware of the commitment because teams will start to rely on them as well.

We also welocme Year 9/10 students and siblings who aren't playing but have to be at the Park anyway because siblings are playing or their Parents are involved in Touch
